While at the rental counter, you have several options presented for your agreement. Once you sign the agreement, these items cannot be easily removed or added - so it is imperative to understand the terms of your rental and what options you have elected to add, or remove.
- Be sure to review your options carefully for the additional add-ons offered at the rental counter. Refuse any options you do not want.
- Do not sign the rental agreement to pick up your car unless you agree to all terms, pricing, and add-ons. Once that receipt is signed, it is extremely difficult to dispute any information included on the receipt.
- Fuel Purchase Option: This is a prepaid tank of fuel, often at a rate that is discounted from current pump rates. If you plan to use a full tank of gas, this is a convenient option to purchase as you can return the car empty without penalty rather than struggling to find a station nearby before the return or worrying about time. No refunds are given for fuel remaining in the tank.
- If you do not purchase this option, be sure to refuel prior to return. If the vehicle does not have a full tank of gas, you will be charged for the refueling expense, often at a rate that is much higher than pump prices.
- Insurance options: Most rental companies have multiple insurance type options that can cover liability only, the vehicles, personal effects, or a total protection package. These options are usually a daily rate for the duration of your rental and may be required by the location. Personal car insurance, 3rd party rental car coverages, and others may not be accepted by the location. If it is required, be sure to show proof of any coverage you already have in case it can be accepted in lieu of their plan(s).
- Vehicle make and model: The vehicle make and model may differ from the vehicle shown on your confirmation but should be of a similar size. Locations are not able to guarantee specific makes/models in most cases. If you elect to change what is offered, you could be charged an upgrade fee (even if the vehicle is a lower class) if the current rate for the desired vehicle is higher than what was reserved
- Before you leave the location, thoroughly double-check the condition of your rental. Is there any noticeable damage (including tires/windshield), does the car have a full tank of gas, is the vehicle clean, does the vehicle smell of smoke or any strong odors? Anything you notice should be reported immediately to ensure it is documented so that you avoid any potential charges or can change vehicles.
