Renting a vehicle can be fun, as well as slightly intimidating.
Did you know that any damage incurred to the vehicle while in your possession may be your responsibility? The cost to repair the vehicle, as well as the time the vehicle is unable to be rented as a result of the damages may be billed back to the driver. There are multiple protection plans available to help protect yourself financially from unexpected damages and other incidents.
Here are a few options you may have available.
- Our site offers a rental protection option. This coverage protects the rental car but does not include liability. It may be canceled any time prior to picking up the vehicle for a full refund (full details and contact information is provided to the email address used to create the booking upon confirmation). This plan may not be accepted at all locations.
- Some locations do require proof of insurance and may require you to purchase their protection plans (especially international locations). Unfortunately, the rental car companies do not advise us as to which locations require these plans as a condition of rental so you may wish to contact the location directly to confirm whether that's the case.
- It is a good idea to verify with your current car insurance company whether your coverage extends to car rentals and if any downtime of the rental car is also included (the time it takes to repair the car, during which it cannot be rented out to others).
- Many credit cards will also offer protection, so check with your credit cards prior to rental. If you would like to be able to use that benefit, be sure to provide that card as payment.
- Additional 3rd party protection plans may be available as well. Keep in mind that these policies may be denied by the rental location as valid coverage.
